TACKLING TECH: Using a Split-Screen in Teletherapy

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

I was 30 years old and a four-year tele-SLP veteran when I first learned how to split-screen on my iMAC. You can learn today in this Tackling Tech: Using a Split-Screen in Teletherapy blog! After figuring out how to do it, it's increased my productivity, efficiency, and ease of assessment and treatment in teletherapy.

How it Works

Never have I loved my iMAC more when I realized it could do this:

  1. Hover your pointer over the full-screen button in the upper-left corner of a window. Or click and hold the button.

  2. Choose ”Tile Window to Left of Screen” or ”Tile Window to Right of Screen” from the menu. Or drag the entire window left or right. The window then fills that side of the screen.

  3. Click a window on the other side of the screen to begin using both windows side by side.

And if you'd rather watch a video, I've got youtube suggestions for both apple and windows computer users below!

When to Use It

Once you've started regularly using split screen view, you'll find all sorts of uses. It's especially helpful in teletherapy if you want to...

  • Play a board game with internet spinner or Dice.

  • Use book companion, or other app companion resources.

  • See your teletherapy students and your Google Sheets™ Conversation Evaluation Form simultaneously.

And lets not forget the benefits for your making your admin time more efficient when you...

  • View your schedule on your calendar and email scheduled session times and links.

  • Type out your SOAP notes on your Boring Black & White Interactive PDF Template while simultaneously checking your email (or watching your favorite Netflix show).

  • Copying and pasting necessary information to your resource creation app of choice when assembling materials for your students.
